Someone sad, programmers are the craftsmen of the software industry. An engineer is concerned with creating specifications, designs and plans. A craftsmen tries to create a product to meet specifications and designs created by the engineer. As industries matured the role of craftsmen and engineer separated and there was specialization. I completely agree with this.
The programmers need to step back away from the code, lift their heads and look around at their customer. They must try to find solutions rather than implementation and/or technology.
